Your job or your children – why must we choose?

Thirty years on from having her own children Geraldine Beddell wrote this week of her shock at how little has changed in terms of working mothers. Whilst young women today are brought up feeling that they can do anything, the economy is still not set up to help families. The department of work and pensions reports that a women’s wages fall relative to a man’s for a decade after having their first child.

Geraldine suggests that things will only improve when we realise that the economy should exist to help families and not the other way round.
