Ted Hughes on the universal inner child, in a moving letter to his son

This extract from a letter Ted Hughes wrote to his son Nicholas explores the concept of inner child. He states that to protect the child we have within us we develop a suit of armour, a secondary self. When we meet others we mostly only meet the armoured self – yet with some we are able to deal directly with the true self inside and in a way that makes them like our own child.
