Children to stay with foster families until 21

On Wednesday the Minister for Children and Families Edward Timpson announced the introduction of a £40 million fund to provide financial support to young people who wish to remain with foster families until their 21st birthday. Once legally an adult, a young person cannot be considered to be in care and therefore cannot technically be fostered – this new initiative aims to allow young people the opportunity to stay with their foster family until they are ready to move on, rather than when they reach a pre-determined age.
