Scottish independence: Alex Salmond outlines childcare ‘savings’

The white paper on Scottish Independence was released this week. Included in the 670 page document are plans to increase pre-school childcare allowance. Under the proposed plans all children aged 3 and 4 (and vulnerable children aged 2) would be entitled to 30 hours of childcare each week – the current entitlement is just half of this at 15 hours per week for all 4 years olds and eligible 3 year olds.

It is estimated that the proposed changes would benefit around 240,000 children.
