Calls reporting child abuse to charity surged by 30% in past year

NSPCC Scotland has announced that there was a 30% increase in calls to their helpline last year from people who had concerns about a child. Of the 1,920 calls they received 1,166 referrals were made to either social services or the police.

The most common cause of referral was neglect with 46% of the referrals being made for this reason. The National Head of Service for NSPCC Scotland highlighted the important role the public play in keeping children safe and encouraged anyone with concerns to report them immediately, rather than wait.
