Scottish parliament passes children’s bill

The Scottish Parliament has recently passed the Children and Young People bill. Some elements of the bill have been heavily criticised, particularly the proposal for every child in Scotland to have a named person who would have responsibility for monitoring a child’s wellbeing from birth to 18 years. There are real concerns over how this would work in practice. For example, the government is yet to clarify how this could be implemented without impacting negatively upon the already strained services currently available to very vulnerable children.
