Atos quitting £500m ‘fit for work’ contract early

Atos Healthcare has quit their contract to deliver fit-for-work assessments for the government. There has been increasing concern over the performance of Atos since they were awarded the contract in 2008 – last summer it was announced that the company had been instructed to implement a quality improvement plan due to a deterioration in reports.

The chief executive of disability charity Scope welcomed the decision, saying that this gives the government an opportunity to “move away from a fundamentally flawed system”.
