Keep the vital spark – burnout in lifeline services in the third sector

A recent study has shown that frontline charity workers are frequently emotionally and physically exhausted by work. An interesting point made is that burnout for those in the third sector differs to occupational stress as, alongside the classic symptoms of overload, there is also an erosion of values and beliefs – which are arguably the foundations of third sector work. The study concludes with a number of ways organisations and policy makers can combat burnout; mostly involving support for employees.
