Kinship carers ‘unable to afford basic necessities’

Last week, Buttle UK released a report on kinship care. Although each child raised with a kinship carer saves the taxpayer on average £56,000, the research found that only 31% of kinship carers could afford to provide all eight basic essentials, like appropriate clothing and heating (http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-bristol-22150189). The Scottish Kinship Care Alliance, who are a grassroots project campaigning for equal rights for kinship carers and support for carers and children, have supported the findings of the Buttle UK research.
