Will strain on children’s hearings affect decisions?

The introduction of a new computer system at the Scottish Children’s Reporters’ Administration (SCRA) has apparently caused a substantial amount of disruption – resulting in hundreds of hearings being cancelled or rescheduled.

Glasgow’s Children’s Panel agreed with the SCRA to ask panel members to avoid causing extra work. In reality this means they are urging them not to continue cases to a further hearing or to order an early review of a decision.

The hearing system is designed to protect vulnerable, at risk children – delays because of an IT issue are not good enough.
