The cost of a child in 2013

At the end of August the Child Poverty Action Group released a report that found parents struggle now more than ever to afford to provide a decent standard of living for their children. It costs a minimum of around £160 per week to bring up a child to age 18.

However, lone parents on benefits only received on average 61% of this figure. The report also found that families with children tended to fall lower down the income distribution and be at higher risk of poverty than those without.
