Start schooling later than five, say experts

An open letter signed by 127 leading figures (including a former Children’s Commissioner for England) suggests that we should allow children to start school later in order for them to have more time to develop. They are concerned that the current system puts too much emphasis on academic achievement which takes away time for children to engage in essential developmental activities like free play.

A campaign has now been launched to push for a series of education reforms in England, including a developmentally appropriate, play-based early years framework.
