Child Protection - Social Work Statistics Scotland

Last week the Scottish Government released the social work statistics for 2011-12. The additional tables released with the main document show a comparison between Scotland and the rest of the UK.

Even when we exclude the children who are looked after at home from the statistics (as per the English and Welsh), in Scotland we still have the highest rate of looked after children; yet we have the lowest rate in the UK of children on the child protection register.

Clarification on why this might be is required from the Government, as a comparative analysis of these two figures is not fully explored in the report.
