MP Paul Maynard suggests food banks could become a 'habit' for people in poverty

Food bank charity the Trussell Trust recently stated that more than 6,000 children in Scotland needed food parcels in the past five months.

Last week the chief executive of the charity, Chris Mould, responded to comments made by Conservative MP Paul Maynard who suggested that people visit food banks out of habit rather than taking responsibility for their own welfare. Mould called these comments unhelpful, demeaning and inaccurate. He stated that the Trussell Trust model is aimed at helping people meet immediate physiological needs whilst working in partnership with other agencies to address the underlying long-term issues.
